Uriel Tsachor, piano Tuesday, October 3 An internationally active soloist and chamber musician, Uriel Tsachor is a Steinway Artist and heads the piano area at the University of Iowa. "A musician who pursues piano playing as a vehicle for musical poetry," (SüddeutscheZeitung, Munich) Tsachor has appeared in recitals in New York, Chicago, Tel-Aviv, Brussels, Vienna, Paris, London, Milan and other cities around the world, winning acclaim from critics and audiences alike for his powerful poetic expressiveness and compelling sensitivity. Julie Coucheron, piano Elizabeth Pridgen, piano Thursday, February 15 Pianist Julie Coucheron returns, joining Elizabeth Pridgen in a four-hand piano performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring. Coucheron has established an international career winning first prize in all the national competitions she has attended, in addition to winning prizes in Italy, Germany and the United States. Originally from Oslo, Ms. Coucheron now resides in Atlanta and is a member of the Georgian Chamber Players. Albert Travis, Hymn Festival Sunday, March 18, 3 p.m. Dr. Albert L. Travis is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Organ at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served on the faculty of the School of Church Music from 1977-2008. Dr. Travis has been Organist of Broadway Baptist Church in Fort Worth since 1978. Currently serving as Organist and Director of Music Ministries, Dr. Travis plays the Rildia Bee O'Bryan Cliburn Organ. Dr. Travis maintains an active schedule as hymn festival leader, improvisation workshop clinician, arranger and composer. Mulberry Methodist Church, 719 Mulberry Street. MUSIC.MERCER.EDU Mercer University Townsend School of Music Townsend Presents Joan Stockstill Godsey Center for Keyboard Studies Joan Stockstill Godsey Concert Series Guest Artist Recitals ercer University has become an All-Steinway School through the generosity of Mercer's chancellor, Dr. R. Kirby Godsey. With the establishment of the Joan Stockstill Godsey Center for Keyboard Studies, the Townsend School of Music features Steinway & Son pianos for all teaching, rehearsals, and performances. The gift, which recognized Joan Godsey's many contributions to Mercer, and in particular her love of and commitment to music, enabled the School of Music to join the nation's other premier music programs as an All-Steinway School. The gift provided for 37 new pianos and created an endowed fund to support the care and upkeep of all the pianos. The Joan Stockstill Godsey Center for Keyboard Studies hosts an annual Concert Series that features leading international performing keyboard artists. The Godsey Center joins the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings, the Townsend- McAfee Institute for Graduate Church Music Studies, and the Jo Phelps Fabian Center for Musical Excellence as signature programs of the Townsend School of Music. Ken custom designs every musical moment through improvisation and new composition to bring each event to life. Join us in a celebratory concert of song and story-telling featuring Ken Medema, the Mercer Singers, Mercer University Youth Choir to celebrate the opening of the Ken Medema collection in the Tarver Library at Mercer. Adam Estes, saxophone Amanda Johnston, collaborative piano Tuesday, October 24 Guest Artists Estes and Johnston will be presenting a concert featuring French repertoire. The colorful Legende, Op. 66 by Florent Schmitt and Claude Delvincourt's engaging Croquembouches bookend a program that will highlight La main dans le souffle and Nishi Asakusa, two compositions by Francois Rosse that Estes and Johnston recorded on their recent Classics release, titled Metissage. Jonathan Johnson, tenor Craig Terry, piano Tuesday, Oct 31 A graduate of Mercer University, Johnson returns to Macon for a thrilling recital with collaborative pianist Craig Terry. Johnson's recent performances include roles with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Portland Opera, San Diego Opera, and the Kansas City Lyric Opera. He has also appeared on tour with Chris Botti. Mr. Terry is Music Director of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center and is in his eleventh season as Assistant Conductor at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Robert Swan, piano Thursday, March 15 Guest artist Robert Swan will present an evening of piano masterworks. Swan is a successful concert pianist whose artistry has created an international career. Even before his solo recital debut in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City and London's Wigmore Hall, he was performing as recitalist and soloist with major orchestras throughout the United States.
