Massage erapist Labor Doula Childbirth Educator MANDY MILLER What career path led you to become a massage therapist? I knew that I wanted to have a career that would allow me to help people on a personal level. I explored a couple of career paths before deciding that I would have the most impact as a massage therapist. I always wanted to own my own business and be my own boss; being a massage therapist allows me to be my own boss and help people on that personal level. My career as a massage therapist is providing the foundation for my new career, doula and child birth educator. The doula and child birth education portion of my practice was a natural progression from massage therapist as there is no greater joy than helping an expecting mother as she delivers her child. What is the most challenging about your job? In the massage therapy portion of my practice it is helping people understand that their state of mind impacts their physical health. In the doula and child birth education portion of my practice it is educating expecting parents on what a doula is and what she does for the mother and family as they prepare for the child birth process and the new baby. What do you enjoy the most? I enjoy the relationships that I have built over the years with my regular clients. Most come to me when they are in physical pain or emotional stress and we work together to help them regain some balance and relaxation. In a lot of cases they are more than just my clients they become my friends. I also enjoy helping expecting parents prepare for their baby. What do most people not know about massage therapy? Most people don't know that being a massage therapist requires a good deal of initial education about the body and how it works and also that in order to keep your license a massage therapist must attend annual training. 830 Mulberry St. I Suite 204 I Macon, Ga. 31201 478-361-8523 I mandymillerlmt@yahoo.com 86 l MACON MAGAZINE JUNE/JULY 2013 A D V E R T I S E M E N T M S N , A P R N , F N P S p a M e d i c a l TERRI HARPER What makes a business stand out in a crowd?
