36 maconmagazine.com | June/July 2024 The performing arts venue hosts the annual free Jazz in the Courtyard series each summer, simulcasts the Metropolitan Opera on Saturday afternoons, and maintains a busy schedule of concerts, recitals, and special events. El Paraiso Bar and Grill 2822 Bloomfield Rd., Macon El Paraiso showcases the vibrant music and contagious rhythms of regional Mexican music, including cumbia, norteño and banda. Nearly every weekend, nationally touring groups appear at the West Macon venue including Los Originales de San Juan, Bucanas de Culiacan, Estilo Chihuahua and more. From young Mexican pop stars Los Lara to Marimba Orquesta Maya Excélsior, the highly regarded, 80-year-old group promoting the traditional sounds of Guatemala, El Paraiso brings the music of Mexico and Latin America to Central Georgia. Fish n' Pig 6420 Moseley Dixon Rd., Macon The lakeside seafood and barbecue restaurant with a full bar, boat dock, and covered patio overlooking Lake Tobesofkee has gone whole hog with live music every weekend in the summer. Outdoors, Will's Bandstand is hopping with artists like Matcha, Swain, and B. Keith Williams on deck regularly, while indoors, Macon Music Live has presented several sold-out shows in The Boathouse featuring Shane Bridges, Travis Bryant, Chris Moorman, and more. Grand Opera House 651 Mulberry St., Macon As the sole presenter of nationally touring Broadway shows in Central Georgia, the Grand Opera House has hosted classics this year like Jesus Christ Superstar. The 119-year-old historic theatre is also home to the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra and The Nutcracker of Middle Georgia. The Grand's famous stage, where the still existing trap doors are said to have been installed for Harry Houdini, has welcomed Indigo Girls, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Orleans, and John Berry, among others, over the past year. Grant's Lounge 576 Poplar St., Macon When Ed Grant, Sr. established his lounge in 1971, he had no idea that the young bands playing there at the time, including the Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker and Wet Willie, would make his family name a part of rock and roll history. Today, touring bands like Eddie 9V, Pink Stones and GA-20 make regular stops at the venue. Wednesday nights feature the Macon Music Revue interpreting a deep catalog of songs and artists associated with the city, while the long-running Sunday Night Jam Session attracts a who's who of local musicians.
