J U N E / J U L Y 2 0 1 7 M A C O N M A G A Z I N E | 21 Bragg Jam Music and an unapologetic attempt to connect the community is the ethos of Bragg Jam at its core. Born out of a tragedy, Bragg Jam has become an unorthodox institution of sorts, working earnestly to position itself in a way that truly reflects the community. After 17 years, the all- volunteer board's mission remains the same: Give back to Macon and make it more, more than what you experienced yourself. What started as an impromptu jam session to mourn the loss of Brax and Tate Bragg, has evolved into a community staple and major economic driver for Middle Georgia. The concert crawl alone, draws in more than 6,000 people annually listening to more than 70 bands spanning 20 to 30 venues in historic downtown Macon. It's a bit jarring, right? Couple those numbers with the sheer fact that all proceeds are either donated back to the community or to support continual Bragg Jam programming. Bragg Jam is, along with prominent music venues and organizations, in large part, to be thanked for garnering the attention of major recording acts, helping to reignite the fire in this legendary music town. Second Sundays on Coleman Hill are a great testament to this movement of coming together, being a stronger and more vibrant town because we're vested in something that connects us all … music. The success and longevity of the organization is built upon the back of a community that cares, individuals who are passionate about giving back to Macon; breeding electric energy that provokes creativity and innovation. Bragg Jam is synonymous with collaboration, partnering with individuals, nonprofits, for-profits, and other organizations possessing a similar drive and sincere commitment to the renaissance we're currently in the midst of. Most recently, Bragg Jam and the Macon Film Festival have partnered to present Festie Bestie, 10 days of film and music programming, bookended by the two festivals. This year, for the first time ever, Bragg Jam will be expanding the annual concert crawl with an extra night of music on Friday, having a show at the Cox Capitol Theatre featuring Stokeswood as the headliner. It's a smart and natural progression that reflects the growth and depth the event is experiencing. Like most moves for Bragg Jam, it's methodical, carefully considered and timed just right. Subtlety and forward thinking will continue to drive the efforts that Bragg Jam so emphatically believes in.
