AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2016 41 Tell us a bit about Interim HealthCare's history and its mission. Interim HealthCare is a national organization that provides skilled nursing and non-medical home care and healthcare staffing to approximately 50,000 people each day and has been in business for 50 years. Interim HealthCare of Macon opened in 2015 where it currently employs 40, including 36 field staff. Interim travels to clients' homes to provide care services and living assistance, allowing seniors and disabled individuals to live comfortably and independently. Owners Chris Sims, Heather Sims, and Rick Mixon have personal experience with loved ones who have passed away and at one point needed a reassuring presence they could trust. Their passion is to provide loving, experienced care and support. Interim HealthCare strives to improve the lives of clients and their families. They especially focus on care for individuals affected by dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Interim provides a variety of services. Which services are the most needed by the aging population? We provide respite for families. From nutritional meal preparation and assistance with personal grooming to light housekeeping, medication reminders, and companionship, we work to make clients' lives brighter, safer, and more enjoyable. Interim helps make time with parents or aging relatives enjoyable rather than a chore. We recently cared for a client's sick mother, and she stated, "From managing the sitters to being in touch with me directly, Interim had a handle on what was going on with my mother. The quality is consistent. Every sitter was professional, considerate, respectful, and intelligent. I was so impressed." What can you tell our readers about your business that you feel they may not know or understand? Having a private sitter or someone not from an agency with appropriate levels of protection can be a liability. All Interim caregivers are either C.N.A's or P.C.A's who are trained specifically for activities of daily living in the home. They have criminal and driving record background checks, verified nursing certificates and credentials, are drug tested, and have recent TB screening. We insure their certification in CPR and first aid aid and, of course, they are insured under our worker's compensation and general liability policies. They also have ongoing clinical supervision by our R.N, and our employees are not independent contractors. Where do you hope to see your business in 5 years? We believe both our patients and the other healthcare professionals we work with will recognize the value of our organization and the specialized, dedicated support we can offer, making us the best care option in Macon when you need it. How did you choose Macon for your expansion? Macon is our home, and we are honored to work with Macon families. Our executive team of owners has a combined 52 years of clinical and business experience that makes for a dynamic management trio in Macon.
