APRIL/MAY 2016 99 Becky Deis Bourbon Bar 370 Cherry Street | 478.254.6099 facebook.com/bourbononcherry How did Bourbon Bar get started? For a few years, my husband and I were toying around with the idea of opening some sort of bar. We love bourbon, so we finally decided that was the way to go. With that being said, bourbon is a big part of our identity, but we also focus on craft cocktails. Our drink menu was designed to highlight a variety of spirits - you'll find cocktails featuring gin, vodka, rum, tequila and more. What do you enjoy most about your business? Meeting new people. I enjoy being a part of the downtown community. I've been here for almost 10 years now, and seeing Downtown Macon grow is exciting – I'm excited to see what happens next. What are your future plans for Bourbon Bar? Right now we're working on having local musicians come in and perform during the week. In the next few months, we want to open up an area out back for patrons interested in enjoying a cigar with their bourbon or whiskey. What are the challenges of owning/working in a bar as a woman? So far the biggest challenge is being called the owner's wife. But to be fair, my husband and I do co- own the bar, so I guess that's partly true! Honestly, I haven't had a negative experience; everyone I've worked with has been friendly and welcoming. *** SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION LaTasha Garvin Wesleyan Executive MBA 4760 Forsyth Road | WesleyanCollege.edu/emba Reintroduce yourself with three powerful letters behind your name.
