100 MACONMAGAZINE.COM Dr. Ma Lourdes Mina Board Certified OBGYN/Fellow American College of OBGYN - OB/GYN Specialists of Macon 380 Hospital Drive | 478.743.4646 OBGYNSpecialistsofMacon.com What is the most rewarding part of your job? Helping children come into the world and the continuation of care as they grow. It is a privilege to share in the happiness of the birth and celebrate life's milestones with both mom and baby. Just as rewarding, is providing GYN care to women through their maturing years. This encompasses dealing with their needs from Pap smears to the management of menopause and beyond. What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment? Being a mother, a wife and becoming a board certified OBGYN physician and a Fellow in the American College of OBGYN Physicians. After receiving my Doctor of Medicine and Surgery degree at the University of Santo Tomas, I did a year as an intern and worked in underserved areas of the Philippines. After completing my internship, I entered the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency of the Medical Center of Central Georgia here in Macon. Being a part of the OBGYN Specialists group has been the crowning achievement of my career. Not only have they given me the opportunity to practice in a supportive environment, but I work with some of the best surgeons that I have ever shared cases with. What advice would you give someone considering OB/GYN as a career? Work hard and don't let anything discourage you from obtaining your goals. Utilize mentors to guide you and open yourself to learn from the doctors within your practice. The love of my family, the inspiration I feel from being a mother, and faith, motivate me to achieve any goal I set for myself. *** SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION Dr. Jeica H. Wiiams OB/GYN Specialists of Macon 380 Hospital Drive | 478.743.4646 OBGYNSpecialistsofMacon.com What is the best part of your specialty? When I attended the Medical College of Georgia, the one thing I said I wouldn't do is OB/GYN. We started rotations, and when I did my OB rotation my third year and delivered my first baby, that was it. There was no question in my mind that I wanted to do this, so, here I am. I truly love the experience after surgery when I see a family together and everyone is happy. I love being able to give my patients a better experience than they anticipated. What are some of your biggest challenges? My clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, adolescent gynecology and contraceptive technology, so education is an important, major part of my job. Sometimes I am just amazed about the many misconceptions about the human body and sexual health in general. I want my patients to be knowledgeable in order to make good choices and be healthy. But it can be very difficult to achieve that. Where do you hope to be in five years? On a practical level, I hope to be supporting myself and have all my loans paid off! But I also want to stay here in Macon. I want to increase my number of patients and develop my own practice within this group of physicians. I really love what I am doing, and I hope to be at a point where I have more input into the management of our practice and where we are headed in the future. *** Women In Business
