30 | MACON MAGAZINE APRIL/MAY 2015 ADVERTISING | Women IN BUSINESS DR. JESSICA H. WILLIAMS OB/GYN SPECIALISTS, LLP 380 Hospital Dr. | Macon, GA 31217 obgynspecialistsofmacon.com | 478.743.4646 What brought you to Macon? I finished my medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia (now called Georgia Regents University) in 2010 and my OB/ GYN residency in 2014. I started with OB/GYN Specialists in August. When I first came to interview for the job, I really wasn't sure I wanted to move to Macon, but the staff and the hospital were so nice and convinced me this is the place I should be. I kept thinking "Macon?" and wondering about a move here, but the truth is, I like it much more than Augusta. Macon is a good fit for me. I love the fact there are colleges here that contribute to the music and culture of Macon. It's not big like Atlanta, but there is always something to do. How did you choose obstetrics and gynecology as your specialty? It's kind of a funny story. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Georgia with degrees in biology and Spanish. When I attended the Medical College of Georgia, the one thing I said I wouldn't do is OB/GYN. We started rotations and when I did my OB rotation my third year and delivered my first baby, that was it. ere was no question in my mind that I wanted to do this, so, here I am. What is the best part of your job? Well, of course, delivering babies. But I also love the experience after surgery when I see the family together, and everyone is happy and pleased with how everything went. I love being able to give patients a better experience than they anticipated. What are some of your biggest challenges? My clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, adolescent gynecology and contraceptive technology, so education is an important, major part of my job. Sometimes I am just amazed about the many misconceptions about the human body, consequences of actions and sexual health in general. I want my patients to be knowledgeable in order to make good choices and be healthy. But it can be very difficult to achieve that. Where do you see yourself in five years? On a practical level, I hope to be supporting myself and have all my loans paid off ! But I also want to stay here in Macon. I want to increase my number of patients and develop my own practice within this group of physicians. I really love what I am doing.
