How did your career path lead you into Pilates instruction? For studio owner Pat Hudson and her teachers, all roads led to Pilates. Each found increased body awareness, balanced strength and a reduction in body aches and pains from their personal Pilates practices. This drove them to want to share it with others. At the studio, Hudson and her teachers utilize classic Pilates training on the mat and apparatus. In addition, they use Yamuna Body Rolling, Stretch Therapy and the Schroth Method to unwind compression and address misalignment. The ultimate goal is to create grace and ease in the body. What do you enjoy most about your job? The teachers at Cor enjoy helping their clients work to understand the subtleties of movement and muscle engagement. Sessions are tailored to each individual or small group, and the basics of Pilates are always honored. Individuals are asked to set goals, and the work is geared towards those goals while also keeping a focus on safety. What is most challenging about what you do? It is challenging to get past the "quick fix" mentality so prevalent in our culture. Students must be patient as they work to resolve a lifetime of bad habits and movement patterns. People unfamiliar with Pilates may not know that it does not have to hurt to become physically fit. Sessions can be gentle or athletic – and fun. The studio also offers cardio focused classes like Booty Barre (ballet moves to tone, tighten and break a sweat) and Jumpboard (springing off a foot pad while lying down). What are your goals for Cor Pilates over the next year? As always, the focus at Cor Pilates is on guiding the individual to understand that bodies do not consist of pieces and parts which need to be separately shaped and strengthened. Ultimately, the goal is for clients to have balanced bodies, so they can enjoy life more fully. 4444 Forsyth Road I Macon, Ga. 31210 478-477-2678 www.corpilatesmacon.com Pat Hudson, o w n e r Leslie Bean, Dawn Kennedy Allyson Moody and Heather Stevenson t e a c h e r s From le to right: Allyson Moody, Leslie Bean, Heather Stevenson, Dawn Kennedy, Pat Hudson. 88 l MACON MAGAZINE JUNE/JULY 2013 A D V E R T I S E M E N T
