Macon has lost its Miss America. Neva
Fickling passed away in November, leaving
a legacy of grace, culture and community
involvement.
Neva Jane Langley was 19 when
she was crowned Miss America in 1952.
The Wesleyan College graduate, who
later married William Fickling Jr., was
crowned Miss Macon, Miss Georgia and
Miss America. She remains the only Miss
America to win all three of the preliminary
contests (and the only Miss Georgia to
become Miss America). She won the Miss
America talent award with her rendition
of Toccata by Khatchaturian. One of the
