new 12,000-seat amphitheater
with a star-studded rotation, a
laidback lakeside bandstand,
two historic opera houses,
an R&B listening room, and a
world-famous recording studio session in
Macon; bluegrass at a Je ersonville winery;
folk at a Forsyth brewery – with venues to suit
every taste, it's a sizzling summer for live
music in Central Georgia.
Whether you're here for hip hop or opera,
jazz or rock & roll, country or soul, let MM be
your guide to live music like a local in 2024.
Undoubtedly, the biggest story in Macon's
live music landscape this year is Atrium Health
Amphitheater. Since its March grand opening,
the 12,000-seat outdoor venue has hosted one
major concert after another, but the impact
reaches beyond its gates. On a Friday in April
prior to the Turnpike Troubadours concert the
following day, Fresh Produce Records hosted a
jam-packed Brent Cobb in-store performance,
the Big House welcomed numerous visitors
in town for the show, and Grant's Lounge was
standing room only for Eddie 9V.
Atrium Health Amphitheater already serves
as a rising tide for other boats, but to truly keep
Central Georgia's music community a oat, we
need more seaworthy passengers. And whoever
those passengers are – whether they are paying
a fare for touring acts or local ones – are the
anchors who keep venue doors open and bands
paid. So, if you're wondering what you can do to
support the continued growth of live music in
our city, show up. If you love music, pay for it.
