W O M E N I N B U S I N E S S Stratford Academy is proud to feature two leaders in our school community, Head of Lower School, Karen Yarbrough, and Head of Preschool, Kathy Larsen. Combined, these women have nearly 80 years of experience in education. Stratford Academy is a college- preparatory, independent school for students age three through 12th grade. Our mission is to challenge students to achieve their full potential in all they do in the classroom, fine arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities. What experiences led you to choose this professional path? The field of education offers a lot of variety. I taught fi h and sixth-grade reading and math for nine years before becoming an instructional lead teacher. This led me to pursue work in educational leadership. As an administrator, I have more opportunities to impact students' lives. It is gratifying to watch my students become contributing members of society. – Karen Yarbrough My mom and dad, both educators, became my first and most influential role models. Observing the impact they had on the lives of children and adolescents ignited a passion within me, leading me to choose a path in education.I was also driven by a love for children and a steadfast belief in the potential of education to make a lasting impact. That is still what drives me. The ability to make a difference in a child's life is not just a career choice for me; it's a heartfelt commitment to contribute to the future by nurturing and empowering the next generation.– Kathy Larsen S t ra t fo r d A c a d e my Kathy Larsen Karen Yarbrough 6010 Peake Road, Macon, 478.477.8073 e: kathy.larsen@stratford.org e: karen.yarbrough@stratford.org w: stratford.org
