W O M E N I N B U S I N E S S The mission of the Roberts Academy at Mercer University is to prepare students with dyslexia to achieve academic success through dynamic educational programs. What services or products do you offer? Roberts Academy is Georgia's only school for dyslexic 2nd-5th graders outside of Metro Atlanta. In the Academy's classrooms, the Orton-Gillingham approach will engage students in action-oriented learning that combines auditory, visual, tactile, and kinesthetic techniques to teach basic concepts of reading, writing, and spelling across the curriculum. Students attend the Academy until they have mastered the skills to accommodate their learning differences and are prepared to succeed in a traditional school setting. The best advice I have received ... I've never forgotten the advice a dear friend and mentor gave me years ago: You don't have to have all the answers. It's okay to be vulnerable and ask for help. It can be hard, but it's necessary. Also, it's important to trust, support, and respect your team at work. That doesn't mean you will always agree, but a strong, positive team is important to the culture of your business and how you demonstrate your mission. In five years Roberts Academy at Mercer University will be a leader in dyslexia education not only in Middle Georgia but state-wide and beyond.
