WHAT IS THE MISSION OF YOUR BUSINESS? We provide a free medical home for low- income, working, uninsured adults in Bibb and Twiggs counties. These are neighbors who face structural and systemic inequality because of their limited income. When they are sick, they suffer disproportionately. YOU MIGHT BE SURPRISED TO KNOW (TELL US SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, YOUR WORK, OR YOUR BUSINESS): We are philanthropy funded and volunteer driven. We receive no taxpayer funding, and our services are at no cost to those who qualify. We have been fulfilling our mission for 20 continuous years — truly a reflection of the values and ethos of our Macon-Bibb county community! WHAT IS THE MOST GRATIFYING PART OF YOUR WORK? We see the best side of humanity at Macon Volunteer Clinic. We see generous local donors who want to be part of something bigger than their own lives and sacrificially give so others may have the priceless gi of health. We see busy professionals who somehow still make time to volunteer their skills to our patients, whether as a dentist, doctor, mid-level provider, or any other number of roles. And we see hardworking, grateful patients who are striving toward the American dream of building happy and fulfilling lives for their families. This is a humbling and inspiring environment to be immersed in. WHAT LESSONS DID YOU LEARN BECAUSE OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC? The pandemic arrived as a shock to us all. But thanks to Macon Volunteer Clinic's business model — every dollar we spend is a dollar donated — we already focused on resourcefulness, ingenuity, and inventiveness. Those intrinsic work culture qualities paid off during the uncertain pandemic times. 2023 Women in Business NANCY WHITE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MACON VOLUNTEER CLINIC 376 ROGERS AVE.
