2023 Summer Camp Guide AS THE WEATHER WARMS UP, DREAMS OF SUMMER FUN FILL MACON'S YOUTH. IN PREPARATION, WE'VE GATHERED SOME OF MACON'S BEST SUMMER CAMPS. COMPILED BY MAURA RUTLEDGE Box City Summer Camp Historic Macon is bringing back their Box City Summer Camp with two sessions this year. Box City Summer Camp's focus is to teach students the principles of urban planning and the built environment. The camp also offers tours of Downtown Macon so that students can get a firsthand view of different types of urban planning. The camp will be offered to rising third through fifth graders June 19 – 23 and to rising sixth through eighth graders June 26 – 30. It will run from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and be held at the Theatre Macon Education Annex at 424 Cherry St. According to their website, each session will cost $75 per camper for HMF members and $100 per camper for nonmembers, and scholarships are available. Register online. Camp Cavalier Mount De Sales Academy is hosting Camp Cavalier, which includes several camps that offer a multitude of interests for students in first through 12th grades such as SPLASH, Sports Camps, Video Game Design, and Cue the Lights. Each camp has different age groups and pricing, which can be found online along with registration links. Camp Dream Camp Dream is a music-focused summer camp put on by the Otis Redding Foundation that is held from July 10 through 14 and offers students experience instruction in guitar, songwriting, singing, theater, dance, and more. All subjects taught at the camp are focused on a common theme, which students will use to produce art, a song, and a skit to be performed at the camp finale. The link to apply can be found online. Camp Eagle Camp Eagle, put on by Stratford Academy, offers an extensive taste of fine arts, enrichment, sports, and academic offerings with programs available for preschoolers through seniors. The camps will last from May 31 through July 28 and will "include traditional favorites as well as some inviting new adventures," according to their website. Registration can be found online, but it is advised to register early due to how quickly spots fill. The Creative Alternative An art studio, educational facility, and gallery for Macon art that has been supporting the Macon community for over 30 years, The Creative Alternative offers summer programs in painting/ drawing, multi-media, portfolio, clay, and guitar.
