Mercer is also preparing entrepreneurial musicians for success
in their careers at the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings
(315 College St.). Here, in this intensive, conservatory experience
combined with the practicality of business-oriented curriculum,
Mercer music students are presented the opportunity to earn
a spot on the Macon-Mercer Symphony Orchestra, which
performs seasonally at Macon's Grand Opera House (651
Mulberry St.).
A tribute to Macon's music scene can be found on every corner
of downtown and even Mercer's main campus entrance, which
connects to Little Richard Penniman Boulevard.
Macon native Little Richard grew up in the Pleasant Hill
neighborhood and skyrocketed to international
fame with his first hit, "Tutti Frutti," which
remains an iconic anthem even today.
