When you're hungry, having a well- balanced, substantial meal is really all you can think about. You can't concentrate on school work or office work when you're hungry. And you know the ironic thing about being hungry? Once you actually get a satisfying meal, you're anxious about where your next meal will come from – or if it will come at all. This is true for people and animals alike. In fact, any rescued fur baby who's ever had to fend for himself knows this all too well. Intense, painful hunger is something we never forget. It's why many rescued pets guard our food even after we've been adopted into stable families offering regular, delicious meals. They call it being food aggressive, but it's really just the terror of remembering what it's like to be painfully hungry with no food source in sight. My nonprofit animal welfare group Central Georgia CARES has teamed up with Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to make sure we do our part to keep hunger pangs at bay. Middle Georgia Community Food Bank currently assists 24 counties in our region to help people. And if the recipients of this food need help providing food for their families, chances are they may need a little help providing for their furry family members, too. CARES has joined forces with the food bank to collect pet food, and we had AC P U P an awesome collection event this summer where kind, generous people donated pet food for families in need. However, the need far outweighs the inventory. We are continually collecting dog and cat food from individuals and retailers to assist those families in keeping their pets healthy. Because we, especially rescued pets, know hunger hurts. If you'd like to help stamp out pet hunger, contact CARES at P.O.
