Fired Works, hosted by Macon Arts Alliance, is happening April 14-22 at Central City Park. We'll have all the details in our next issue of Macon Magazine, but here's a preview to whet your appetite. The 13th annual event will feature 60 potters from Georgia and the Southeast with thousands of their original works. Fired Works began as a local pottery show and has grown to become the largest exhibit of functional and sculptural pottery in Georgia. The nine-day exhibit and sale includes special events such as clay workshops for children and adults, as well as artist talks. New additions this year include floral demonstrations by Mary Pinson, food truck events and more. This year's featured artist is Ester Lipscomb, a studio potter working in northeast Georgia. Lipscomb took her first pottery class in 1998 at the University of North Georgia and graduated with a degree in Art Education in 1999. She taught art for two years before living in New York, Colorado, Japan, California and India. She returned to the North Georgia mountains in 2008, and now lives in Rabun County. To make the most of your Fired Works experience, art lovers should plan to attend the preview party on April 13, which includes live music, food and an exclusive chance to purchase work before the exhibit opens to the general public the following day. You'll also have the opportunity to mingle with the artists. The mission of Fired Works, according to its website, is to help Southeastern ceramic artists and potters show and sell their work. Fired Works promotes the rich history of pottery in Georgia and its connection to the history of the Ocmulgee River region. Learn more about the event at firedworksmacon.com.
