What is your favorite part of your job? In doing someone's home, you get to know them very, very well. That is such a privilege and a pleasure. Meeting all these wonderful people I might never have met and getting to know them has always been my favorite part of my profession. How did you get started? I worked from home for a long time while my children were young. Then I opened the shop and I have loved that part of the business, too. It has grown so much over the years. I love being able to be my own supplier of certain things for my interior design business. But I also love being able to sell beautiful items and maintain wedding registries for couples. We Women In Business have gotten into clothing, baby items and jewelry, too. I am enjoying it all! What is the most challenging aspect? Getting to know new clients can be the most challenging part sometimes. I want to be sure I really get to know them and their tastes and needs so I can make good choices. Everyone needs a place to shine and feel good about themselves and their homes, but sometimes, getting people out of their comfort zones a little bit can be a challenge. I want to help someone make a space special and better than it is, and sometimes that requires thinking outside of the box. It's fun but challenging. What is your advice to new women in business? First of all, make sure you absolutely love what you do. It's so important to love your job because you have to be ready and willing to work very, very hard in the beginning. You have to be able to do everything yourself! I had no retail experience so really had no idea what I was doing in the beginning. It required 24-hour-a-day work. Now I can afford more help, but that is never what it is like when you first start out.
