The biggest challenge is the old balance between family and career. Owning a restaurant is not something you can just turn off when you get home. It's always in the back, or front, of your mind. What is most rewarding? Location is one of my favorite things about IVP. I live 5 minutes away. Wait a minute, IS that a good thing? I can pretty much wear anything I want to work. I love my job. I have some of the best and loyal employees and customers. There is always a new challenge to take care of. Most are pretty mundane, clogged toilets and ovens that won't light, but you get a good one every now and then. Makes you have to really think about some stuff. Where do you envision yourself five years from now? I hope to still be holding down my corner on Ingleside in 5 years. My daughter will be graduating with a degree in business in December. She already works part time for me so we'll see where she lands after that. I hope she wants to be a part of it but I want to make sure it is what she wants to do and not an obligation she has. What is your advice for women hoping to start a business? I would advise anybody who wants to start a business dealing with the public to have thick skin, realistic expectations and sound financial advice. And make sure you love it and have comfortable shoes! You're going to be spending a lot of time there. Self-employment is not for sissies. Macon Monogramming 5070 Forsyth Road | 478.475.9660 Amy@MaconMonogramming.com MaconMonogramming.com *** How did your career path lead you to your current profession? I graduated in 1994 with a degree in Special Education. I taught elementary school for 6 years before deciding to jump into the retail world with my husband, Brad. We have been so fortunate to do this together for over 17 years now. What are your biggest career challenges? My biggest challenge is the constant change in the industry. With so much available online, I have to work really hard to appeal to my local, loyal customers. It's a constant challenge to keep up with the newest ideas for all ages. Who influenced you the most to pursue your career goals? My husband, Brad, was definitely my biggest influence. He started the corporate apparel side of this business from scratch. I would help him after work, and we realized that we made a pretty good team. He's such an ambitious influence for everyone that knows and works with him. I'm so thankful for his hard work and dedication. What is most rewarding about your job? Most definitely seeing happy customers when they pick up their personalized items. I love when a customer is thrilled with their order. It's such a great feeling to hear compliments and praises for a job well done! Where do you envision yourself five years from now? I hope to continue to grow the business. We're constantly updating equipment to offer the best quality products possible. I hope that when my son, Brady, graduates from college, this business will be waiting for him to take control. Women In Business
