VINTAGE BOOTS
There ain't a man alive that doesn't love a good pair
of boots, and there are plenty of places where you
can get some great new ones. But a good pair of old
boots is like nothing else. I've been collecting vintage,
well-worn boots for years. The best place to find them?
eBay. It's all about the condition when it comes to
vintage footwear. Consider that handmade boots from
the 1930s may be fragile. (You also need to make sure
you know what width you need to be looking for. Feet
were thinner way back when.) Look for full grain leather
boots - they hold up the best - and make sure the
seller includes photos of the soles of the boots. If you
are buying some sort of animal skin boots, make sure
that close-up photographs of the skin show that they
are in good condition. My pair of 1977 rattlesnake skin
boots were so beautiful when I got them that I couldn't
bring myself to wear them, and my patchwork pimp
boots from 1979 sit in a place of honor on a shelf in my
office. Every pair of boots I wear had a story and a life
before they were mine, though, and I love walking in
those footsteps. With the right pair, your guy will too.
