Here are five of my choices for this buying season: 1. Smooth Ambler Contradiction: This whiskey is unique in that it blends two different types of whiskeys, one which is a bourbon made with a high rye content and the other is a bourbon made with a high wheat content (think Pappy Van Winkle or W.L.Weller). 2. Michter's Barrel Strength Rye: This whiskey comes in at a nice 103.1 proof. Michter's doesn't have a distillery, so most of its products are sourced. Most people think that this may be a Heaven Hill product. This is a pretty well- balanced rye with a little sweetness balancing out that spiciness from the rye. 3. 1792 Sweet Wheat: This is the first release from 1792 of a wheat whiskey. Its usual products are higher in the rye content and, hence, a little more spicy. This is an eight-year aged-product distilled at the Old Barton Distillery. Continued on page 108
