AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2016 47 Townsend presents Javier Abreu, tenor Tuesday, October 25, 7:30 p.m. Puerto Rican tenor Javier Abreu has been described as a commanding force onstage, incorporating a rich, sweet and agile voice, with ample dramatic skills. Opera News described him as "…a natural Rossini singer," and The Washington Times stated that "his high, supple lyric voice possesses great conviction." Mr. Abreu has received many notable awards, including a 2003 Richard F. Gold Career Grant given by the Shoshana Foundation of New York, awards from the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, the MacAllister Awards, and the Olsen Artist Debut Award. Joan Stockstill Godsey Concert Series presents Barbara Lister-Sink, piano Friday, November 18, 7:30 p.m. Barbara Lister-Sink is a concert pianist with an international career and a specialist in injury- preventive keyboard technique. A graduate of Smith College and recipient of the Prix d'Excellence from Utrecht Conservatory, Ms. Lister-Sink currently serves as Distinguished Professor of Piano and Artist-in-Residence at Salem College. Formerly keyboardist for the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Lister-Sink has taught at the Amsterdam Muziek Lyceum, Brevard Music Center, Duke University, and as Artist Faculty at the Eastman School of Music. 2016 – 2017 MUSIC.MERCER.EDU Mercer University Townsend School of Music
