Martha Malone and pianist Byron Grant join forces for a romp through the great American songbook. William Denton, trumpet Friday, September 2 Bill Denton is the current Principal Trumpet with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He has performed with the Grant Park Orchestra and as Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Philharmonic. Bill holds a bachelor's degree in trumpet performance from Wichita State University and a master's degree from Arizona State University in Tempe. In 2006 he was awarded a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree with a minor in music composition from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Javier Abreu, tenor Tuesday, October 25 Opera News described him as "…a natural Rossini singer," and The Washington Times stated "his high, supple lyric voice possesses great conviction." Lynda Poston-Smith, soprano Robert Smith, piano Monday, March 20 Dedicated to the art of the song since their first recital together almost 50 years ago, the couple met while they were students at Manhattan School of Music and The Juilliard School of Music, respectively. Since then they have given recitals together in Germany, England, and across the United States in colleges, universities and churches. Jasmine Habersham, soprano Tuesday, April 4 Habersham is a native of Macon, and has recently performed at the 2016 Utah Festival Opera Musical Theater. She also recently performed the role Esther in Ricky Ian Gordon's new opera Intimate Apparel with the Cincinnati Opera Fusion. Her previous performances include Edith in The Pirates of Penzance (Atlanta Opera), as an Apparition in Macbeth (Glimmerglass Festival) and as Papagena in The Magic Flute, in which The New York Times described her portrayal as "appealing." Jasmine is a graduate of The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she received her master's degree and Artist Diploma. Scenes from Hugh Smalling Tuesday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Christopher Schmitz, composer. Here's a sneak peek at an exciting new work in progress by award-winning TSM faculty composer Christopher Schmitz. With a libretto based on the life of a local hero, and written by Suzanne Doonan, creator of Macon's Spirits in October, this opera is gripping and gorgeous. Looking for adventure, young Hugh Smalling left Macon for the Navy, and his story is hair-raising and touching by turns. Sung by TSM faculty and students, this preview will whet your appetite for the full production to come. $7 general admission. Tickets available at the door only.
