84 MACONMAGAZINE.COM Julia Magda Magda Law, LLC 830 Mulberry Street, Ste 203 | 478.812.8060 Julia@MagdaLawFirm.com Tell us about your new law firm. I am thrilled to announce the formation of Magda Law, LLC, which launched on March 1. My prior experience in a respected, local firm and my work with the Chamber of Commerce, for instance, prepared me to step out confidently as a business owner, and the community has graciously welcomed me. I will continue to represent individuals and businesses in civil matters, focusing on health care, employment, contracts, nonprofit governance, and general business advice. What do you find most satisfying about the practice of law? Like many attorneys, the courtroom battle before judge and jury used to get my blood pumping and still does to an extent. The downside to trial work, however, is that the parties' dispute has entered the realm of being unsolvable and instead revolves only around money by the time the jury takes their seats. I learned in recent years just how much I enjoy solving problems for clients in real time. The role of "counselor" is as much a part of being an attorney for me as "advocate," and I am thankful my clients entrust me with that responsibility on a daily basis. Tell us about your current community involvement. This year I was proud to serve as the Chair of the Central Georgia Go Red for Women campaign for the American Heart Association. To date, we have raised more than $80,000 with still more donations coming in to broaden AHA's educational impact for women of all ages and to fund research on heart disease and stroke. I also sit on the Board of Directors for the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce and am honored to support business and industry in our region in that role. What's next for you? National Healthcare Decisions Day is recognized every April, and locally I host a free seminar on advance directives and having important conversations with loved ones about your preferences for health care decision-makers, end-of-life care, medical treatment, and so forth. This year we will host a National Healthcare Decisions Day event at The Wellness Center, Navicent Health on Friday, April 15, and I will have forms and helpful documents on hand for all participants to complete there. My goal is to address an often avoided topic head on in a way that emboldens participants to take the next step and have these hard conversations sooner rather later. *** SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION Women In Business
