32 | MACON MAGAZINE APRIL/MAY 2015 Tell us about your professional background. I was born and raised in Macon. I attended the University of Georgia and earned my bachelor's degree in interior design from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. I then worked as a designer in Atlanta before returning home and starting my own business, Bonnie Starr Interiors, in 1990. What do you enjoy most about your job? Pleasing my clients! Each client is different so how I do that varies with each person I work with. I need to ask how their family functions and assess their lifestyles and what's important. I need photos of styles and rooms they love. at helps me better understand how to give them what they want and need. I design to the particular tastes of my clients while keeping classic design principles. I enjoy creating interiors that blend timeless elegance with modern spirit. What's the most challenging job you've ever had? I actually worked on a Fortune 500 company in Atlanta. It was a 40,000-square-foot space and it took two years to complete. It was a fun, huge challenge, but it taught me a great deal. What is the most difficult part of your business? Paperwork! I'm so right- brained that I kind of hate the business aspect of it; I really wish paperwork wasn't so necessary. But I do love the people part, and I love making clients happy.
