of New York's Central Park. The Trail
provides a safe, beautiful place to
walk, bike and play while enjoying the
river and Macon's historic and cultural
sites.
Our climate is perfect for year-around
golf, tennis, running and biking. Golf
courses abound. The Macon Tennis
Association has been coordinating
tennis leagues and tennis lessons
for years and frequently hosts USTA
regional tournaments. Runners would
wear out their shoes if they tried to
compete in all of the local races.
The Macon Tracks Running Club is a
forum for runners and walkers of all
ability levels to meet, exchange ideas,
and to celebrate fitness and the love
of the sport.
Speaking of sports, Mercer
University's athletic programs are
putting the private university on the
national map. The men's basketball
team made it to the round of 32 in
the NCAA national tournament. The
Bears upset national power Duke
along the way. The football program
has enjoyed amazing success for a
new program, and the baseball team
is always a solid contender. This fall,
the Bears take a step up, joining the
Southern Conference.
Just as recreational opportunities
are plentiful, so are educational
