FOOD AND FUN It's hard to think about the South without thinking about barbecue, fried chicken, and homemade biscuits. There are plenty of local restaurants serving traditional home-style cooking including H&H, made famous by chef/owner Mama Louise who tended and fed the Allman Brothers as they got their start in Macon more than 40 years ago. This famous downtown icon was recently sold to the Moonhanger Group. The young entrepreneurial entertainment and restaurant management company promises to upgrade and renovate the space while not losing its charm and character. But Macon and the surrounding areas have moved well beyond traditional Southern cuisine. Innovative farm-to-table dishes are featured at Dovetail in downtown Macon, and Grits Café in nearby Forsyth boasts not only farm-to-table, but vegetables from their own gardens as well. Authentic French cuisine is served at The Back Burner. And there are two regionally acclaimed Italian restaurants in north Macon-Bibb, Marco and Natalia's.
