JUNE/JULY 2013 MACON MAGAZINE I 83 A D V E R T I S E M E N T A D V E R T I S E M E N T What type of medicine do you practice and what do you consider your specialty? My private practice blends the full range of obstetrics in which I manage all levels of risks during pregnancy, infertility management and gynecologic services with a specialization in minimally invasive surgery. That is, I use surgical techniques that are less traumatic to the body than traditional techniques –smaller keyhole surgery incisions, unlike the traditional "open" procedures with large incisions. What is most challenging about your job? I wear many hats every day from dusk to dawn. I try to meet the needs of my patients in every way. What is most rewarding about your practice? With experience, skill, a safety record and true compassion for women, I have given hope and changed that initial anxious face to that of a relieved and happy woman. This is most rewarding to me. My number one source of referral is my satisfied patients. What led you to minimally invasive surgery? Because modern women have extremely busy lifestyles, when they have medical problems they want solutions that will not remove them from their usual routine for any extended period of time. So, for common types of gynecologic conditions –like fibroids (non-cancerous growths in the uterine wall), endometriosis (non- cancerous growths of the uterine lining), cysts of the ovaries or prolapse (falling or slipping of the uterus) – all conditions that can cause chronic pain and heavy bleeding, we begin with conservative treatments like medication and other non-surgical methods. When these methods are unable to relieve symptoms, minimally invasive robotic surgery is a wonderful option. It results in less pain, fewer complications, less blood loss and a shorter hospital stay. There is practically no wound to care for and little risk of infection, all of which leads to a quicker recovery and return to normal activities. That is why I continue to be the busiest, most experienced female gynecologic robotic surgeon in Middle Georgia. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to serve the women in the middle Georgia area in this way.
