74 l MACON MAGAZINE JUNE/JULY 2013 NANCY DURHEE NANCY DURKEE F i n a n c i a l A d v i s o r What is the most rewarding part of your job? Being a Financial Advisor at Smith Brown and Groover, Inc. over the past few years has been very rewarding to me. I have had the pleasure of meeting some great people and building relationships that will hopefully last a lifetime. In my opinion, this is one of the many benefits that are a part of being in the financial industry. What are your main goals as an advisor? Determining risk tolerance, as well as understanding my clients' goals, are the two key factors that are important to me as an advisor. I feel that it is my responsibility to give them the attention that is necessary to meet their needs, and at the same time, create accountability and to be accessible when it is convenient for them. What do you feel you offer that is unique as a financial advisor? One of my main focuses has been to help women to understand their finances. I have tried to educate and assist women to create and grow their portfolios. Additionally, I am now concentrating on the next generation of investors, the children of my existing clients. It is very important that the younger generation learn how to handle, as well as, learn how all of the parts move within the existing portfolios. It makes perfect sense because it will one day be passed down to them. As clients age, I like to involve the children in the investment decisions so that they not only know what is within the portfolio, but why it is included. What is most challenging in your job? The entire industry is facing challenges because of today's low rate environment. Much of the advice that I am currently sharing with clients revolves around how they can achieve a more desirable rate of return with alternative investments. In my opinion, money in the bank just doesn't cut it anymore. Along with her partner, Dr. Joyce Schafer, Nancy has been Broker of the Year for 2011 and 2012. This year marks the 80th anniversary of Smith, Brown & Groover, Inc. They are the oldest and largest independent broker in the Middle Georgia area. Over the years, they have built a business of offering stocks, mutual funds, variable annuities, retirement plans, estate planning, IRAs and IRA Rollovers, fee-based money management services, and life and health insurance. A m b e r D u f f , P a r t n e r What type of law do you practice? I handle all types of real estate transactions for individuals and businesses. I represent buyers, sellers and lenders dealing in residential, multi-family, commercial, agricultural and timberland purchases, sales and loans. I can provide a broad scope of real estate related services, including, but not limited to, preparing Letters of Intent, reviewing and negotiating sales contracts, performing title exams, providing title insurance, assisting with due diligence and development work and, of course, I conduct the actual real estate closings. What is most challenging about your job? One of the most challenging aspects of being a lawyer is time management. Successfully managing a busy real estate law practice requires a great deal of attention to details and deadlines and the ability to accurately and efficiently prioritize, multi-task and delegate. J e n n y M . S t a n s f i e l d , P a r t n e r What type of law do you practice? I have a fairly diverse practice but it is amazing how often each area overlaps. I primarily handle creditors' rights in bankruptcy, business litigation, family law, probate and estate planning. The diverse nature of my practice definitely keeps me on my toes and is a constant lesson in multi- tasking. What do you hope to accomplish in the next 5 years, in other words, what are your career goals? I plan to continue focusing on the growth of Martin Snow and my individual practice by effectively responding to the needs of our clients in an ever changing market while also honing my skills to respond to those changing needs. A m y M . F l e t c h e r , A s s o c i a t e What type of law do you practice? All things tax-related, whether financial in nature or more general business concerns. I like to think of myself as a tax consultant for other attorneys in our firm. I am in my last semester of graduate school for a Master of Laws in Taxation at the University of Alabama and am a certified public accountant. So, clearly, tax and financial issues are my favorite. I am a member of the Taxation, Banking Law, Corporate Law, and Trusts, Probate and Estate Planning practice areas of the firm. 240 3rd St. I Macon, Ga. 31201 I 478-749-1700 4025 Vineville Ave. I Macon, GA 31210 www.martinsnow.com (L to R) Amy M.
