60 l MACON MAGAZINE DECEMBER/JANUARY 2013 What advanced technology/procedure are you using? Recent advances in hand surgery largely relate to the use of technology. Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release using a micro- camera and specialized instruments through a small incision is one such advance being done at OrthoGeorgia. Who benefits the most from this? In the past carpal tunnel release could only be done with an open incision (some surgeons still use this method). Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release allows patients to return to their normal activities much sooner than other procedures for treating carpal tunnel syndrome. Patients may begin using their hand on the day of surgery and can drive the next day. So, any patients who qualify for this type of surgery benefit greatly. How often is it used/performed? This procedure is performed often at OrthoGeorgia and all our Hand Fellowship Trained Surgeons are highly skilled in Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release. Does insurance and/or Medicare cover this? Insurance and Medicare cover Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release just as any other surgical procedure. For further questions contact OrthoGeorgia at 478-745-4206 or at orthoga.org. OrthoGeorgia Endoscopic Carpal Tunnel Release (478) 745-4206 | orthoga.org What advanced technology/procedure are you using? Currently we are using Ankle Arthroscopy, which can fix fractures and debried the ankle through a scope, rather than reverting to traditional surgery. Besides fractures, what are some other reasons to perform Ankle Arthroscopy? Other conditions include cartilage damage, bone spurs, scar tissue build-up and posterior ankle pain. What are the benefits? The body only has to heal the small poke holes as opposed to a large incision, so tissue recovery is quicker. There is less "down time," rehab is shorter, and the patient gets back to normal activi- ties sooner. Is Ankle Arthroscopy covered by insurance and/or Medicare? Yes, it is.
