42 l MACON MAGAZINE DECEMBER/JANUARY 2013 Aspire to be inspired We're welcoming a new year, and as we do, we're wondering what inspired Macon residents in 2012. So Matt Miller, along with photographer Danny Gilleland, asked local folks. We find the answers pretty inspiring. STEPHANIE FREEMAN, grew up in Middle Georgia. When she was 14, a major car accident nearly took her life. After two months in a coma, doctors told her she would probably never walk again: The biggest inspiration to me through this year has been the thought of being in a wheelchair and not being able to walk again when I was such a young person. Every time this comes to my mind I wanna tear up. I remember lying in that hospital bed at night praying and praying for the next day to be my miracle and it finally came to me! And today at the age of 34 years old I can proudly say I was told I would never walk again, and I have run two marathons now. ANTHONY AND AARON BROWN: Anthony: Music. That's my inspiration. Both of us; we play in church. I play keyboards. Aaron: I play keys too. Anthony: And photography is a new hobby for me. I just started. But it's just music in general that is my inspiration. When I was younger, I listened to a lot of jazz, but now I will listen to any kind. I just like to listen to something that sounds good and shows the talent of the performer. Aaron: I'm inspired by arts like sewing clothes. I thought about it the other day, because I really like transformation. Like when something is made over, transformed. Music, clothing, fashion, everything.
