October/November 2026 | maconmagazine.com 97 NewTown Macon is an independent nonprofit, making Downtown Macon safe, beautiful, fun, affordable, and locally led. Their comprehensive approach to downtown development has resulted in 83% storefront occupancy, 89% loft occupancy, and 1M+ annual event attendance. ACHIEVING? TELL US YOUR VISION! More believers who encourage others that they can make a difference here in Macon. More hard workers who enter the arena to get their hands dirty engaging, connecting, and helping around our community. More dreamers who are never satisfied with the status quo. And a Filipino restaurant. WHEN YOU'RE NOT WORKING, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? Catching up on the 340 reels that Katie and I send to each other during the week. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY IN DOWNTOWN MACON. I don't know if I've ever experienced a perfect day in general. But I'll give you a template for memorable ones. It usually starts with a visitor at church who we invite to brunch afterwards. They discover H&H and the musical heritage that Macon stands on. We drive around and point out why Cotton Avenue is diagonal and who Henry McNeal Turner was after passing by the post office. We walk around Mercer's Quad and remind them that we beat Duke. At some point, we get a text to come hang at Fall Line where the rest of our people meet our new friend, and make them feel welcomed. Most memorable days involve our community, bringing someone new into the fold and blowing their minds at just how much of a hidden gem Macon, Georgia really is. I have met several people who have had this similar experience (not me in particular), who stayed in Macon because of the instant feeling of belonging here. Want to build up Downtown Macon yourself? Everyone I know here has an attitude of, 'whatever they can do out there, we can do here too.'"
