My husband Alex rst said this to me. It changed my
perspective on civic practice: Complaining is not the same
thing as caring. Don't get me wrong, I do plenty of venting.
But if you care about an issue, complaining is rarely the
vehicle to move it. You've got to be willing to collaborate.
Algorithmic media can be a negative spiral. We've become
used to talking in a way that's disconnected from listening.
Live arts can turn that on its head. How often these days do
we get to listen and experience the same thing, together?
