People need to believe that Macon is enough. When my
family rst moved here, we were often met with surprised
looks when we said we'd left Chicago to be closer to family
and had chosen Macon over every other city in Georgia.
But why not Macon? Sometimes communities fall into
the habit of measuring themselves against larger cities
and develop a sort of collective chip on their shoulder. It's
common to hear, "Why don't we have what Atlanta has?"
or "Why can't we do what Savannah did?" I don't think
those are the right questions. Imitation is not progress.
