Howard, Moore & McDuffi e is a public accounting fi rm that provides a wide array of tax, accounting, and audit services to meet the needs of clients across Central Georgia and beyond. Joli's areas of expertise include providing audit and accounting services for not-for-profi t organizations, employee benefi t plans, and construction contractors. She also provides income tax preparation and planning for individuals, businesses, and not-for-profi t organizations. What experiences led you to choosing this professional path? (Why do you do what you do?) One of my earliest memories is watching my mom do bookkeeping for my dad's business, eff ortlessly adding up numbers on 10-key calculator without even glancing down. I remember being fascinated at how natural is seemed to her, and those moments sparked my initial interest in accounting. What ultimately confi rmed this as the right career path for me was the chance to make a meaningful impact for my clients. As someone who is both a natural helper and a 'numbers' person, public accounting has proven to be the perfect intersection of those two strengths. What is the best advice you have ever received, business or otherwise? Build a strong Christian faith so that you have something steady to lean on during life's most challenging moments. My faith reminds me to lead with integrity, treat others with respect, and serve my clients with honesty and care. In a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, my faith is a steady compass. What has been the most challenging part of being a female business owner or professional woman? One of the most challenging aspects of being a female professional – particularly as a partner in a public accounting fi rm – is balancing the demands of my career and my responsibilities as a mom. There's a constant pull to give your all to both roles, which isn't always easy. I've learned the best way to manage that balance is to be fully present wherever I am. My hope is that I'm modelling for my children that it's possible to have both a rewarding career and a fulfi lling home life. Mike Young
