After 31 years of dedicated service, Mercer University and The Piedmont Grand
Opera House proudly celebrate the retirement of Bob Mavity, a cornerstone of The
Grand and a steward of its historic stage. We often joke that Bob "came with the
building," having begun his work at The Grand in 1994 — before Mercer assumed
management the following year — and he has been holding down the fort of this
120-year-old theater ever since.
Across four decades, Bob has mentored generations of technicians, shared
his deep institutional knowledge, and consistently lent a hand to fellow arts
organizations throughout the community. While he will be missed backstage on
headset, we look forward to seeing Bob more often in the audience, especially for
his favorite bands.
The Grand is pleased to announce that Patrick Hamilton, originally mentored
by Bob at the venue when Patrick began his career, will succeed him as Technical
Director. Photo by Leah Yetter for Mercer University.
