June/July 2025 | maconmagazine.com 19 FROM TOP The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce celebrated the legacy of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce with the unveiling of a Georgia Business History Initiative historical marker at the Macon City Auditorium—the city where the Georgia Chamber held its first Board of Directors meeting over 100 years ago. Mount de Sales music students enjoyed a tour at The Grand. Kathy McArthur and Waldo Floyd and Emerson Floyd and Rachel Cochran attended the triennial celebration of The Society of Cincinnati, hosted by The Georgia Society along with The French Society in Paris and at Versailles. The Society of Cincinnati is relatives of the officers of the Continental Army from the American Revolution from the original 13 colonies and France. Southwest High School senior Victoria Freeman won a $15,000 scholarship as the champion of the fifth annual Poetry Slam, held April 25 at the Historic Douglass Theatre and funded by the Griffith Foundation. Main Street America has posthumously honored Josh Rogers, late President & CEO of NewTown Macon, with the 2025 Mary Means Leadership Award — the highest recognition for visionary leadership in downtown revitalization. Josh's wife Meaghan, and their children Jack and Ellie, accepted the award in his honor at the Main Street Now Conference held in Philadephia. Macon's crew celebrated with an appropriate photo op.
