STORY BY JENNIFER LLERENA
D
o you know why I think we love music
so much? Because it allows us to feel
our stories. Music helps us experience
the shared moments of love and grief,
but also tells stories about how we want
to see ourselves.
How many of us have blasted Aretha when
someone didn't give us our due R-E-S-P-E-C-T? Or
turned to dear Otis to lift us up when "we can't get no
satisfaction," no matter what we try?
Our style tells a story too. Like music, it's how we
amplify the feelings we want more of in our lives.
A well-cut suit can quiet imposter syndrome faster
than you can say "Eye of the Tiger." A vignette of
sentimental trinkets on your desk can bring a rush of
happy tears just as easily as your wedding song.

Macon. One of my favorite
things about telling my
story through style is
helping you define yours.
In honor of the Music
Issue, here are three ways I
use locally inspired music
and style to bring the
stories I want to tell to life.
