88 maconmagazine.com | October/November 2024 CHRISTELE PARHAM, CEO OF CRATE X AND HAM DESIGNS Ariane Parham, Member Coordinator at Crate X and Managing Member at HamTech Solutions Christele and Ariane are, first and foremost, innovators. Their tech-forward solutions are not only connecting a web of servers and smartphone applications, but also weaving a closer-knit community of people who think about equity, entrepreneurship, and a sense of place. They've long been creating these thoughtful spaces virtually and through local events, but this year their storefront co-working space on Cherry Street, Crate X, opened its doors. Crate X is for entrepreneurs, professionals, creatives, and digital nomads seeking a vibrant community and flexible workspace in the heart of Georgia. Their guide to the city encompasses their motto that Macon is serendipitous – and just as this power couple has built a strong network in Downtown Macon's places and institutions, they believe there's space for you to be part of the transformation. WHAT CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL STORY, CAREER, AND PATH TO MACON? Christele: I made the leap to Macon in March 2014, following my heart – and Ariane – from a long-distance relationship to the heart of Georgia. Once I arrived, it didn't take long for Macon to capture my heart, too. There's something about those long drives framed by greenery and the charm of In this series, we turn to the passionate Maconites, those who call this vibrant city home, to curate their very own guides to experiencing Downtown Macon. I often say Macon is serendipitous—it truly feels like finding something wonderful without looking for it. Ariane: My connection to Macon was through a scholarship from Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin to Macon State (now known as Middle Georgia State University). After graduation, this city had already become more than just a place to study; it had become a community to call home. TELL US ALL ABOUT CRATEX! CrateX sprang to life fueled by our brainstorming sessions and a trip that sparked our imagination—a conference in New Orleans attended by web designers that were digital nomads. At the time, I was immersed in consulting, working alongside team members gathered from across the globe, which really highlighted the value of community and collaboration. Crate X is a celebration of that spirit. Nestled in the heart of downtown Macon, our coworking space is not just about providing space or Wi-Fi. It's about cultivating an ecosystem where entrepreneurs, freelancers, changemakers, and dreamers can come together to create and collaborate. Inspired by my Haitian heritage, which values communal spaces for people to connect and thrive, Crate X aims to be that nurturing ground where every member can plant seeds of ideas and watch them grow. Ariane, with his passion for fostering connections, sees Crate X as a place where serendipity and innovation meet, catalyzing those "aha" moments that often come from just the right convergence of people and ideas. We offer flexible memberships to accommodate everyone from the digital nomad passing through to locals seeking a steady hub for innovation. Whether you need a quiet corner for a day or a collaborative zone to spark your next big project, Crate X is your go-to workspace in Downtown Macon. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT FALL SATURDAY IN DOWNTOWN MACON: Christele: As an introverted entrepreneur who often spends long hours glued to a computer screen, I cherish curating peaceful, rejuvenating experiences for myself, especially during a busy workweek.
