"America's diversity is its greatest power," says Maconite
Laura Gómez, a Road Safety and Sustainable Mobility
Expert whose family hails from Colombia. Our nation
celebrates an aspect of that diversity with Hispanic Heritage
Month on September 15 – October 15 each year. What
began as a weeklong celebration in 1968 was expanded
to a month in 1988 to coincide with independence days in
several Latin American countries: Guatemala, Honduras,
El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica celebrate theirs on
September 15, followed by Mexico on September 16, Chile on
September 18, and Belize on September 21.
