2024-2025 PROGRAMS Monday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Rei Hotoda, guest conductor Copland Fanfare for the Common Man and Lincoln Portrait Hailstork Fanfare on Amazing Grace Dvořák Symphony No. 8 in G Major Macon Mayor Lester Miller will be joined by his predecessors, Robert Reichert and C. Jack Ellis, in Copland's Lincoln Portrait, reading excerpts from some of the 16th president's greatest speeches, including the Gettysburg address. Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. Thomas Wilkins, guest conductor Amy Schwartz Moretti, violin Schmitz Violin Concerto Brahms Symphony No. 2 in D Major Amy Schwartz Moretti, Director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings at Mercer University, is the featured soloist on the program, performing the piece she recently recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra by Townsend School of Music faculty Christopher Alan Schmitz. The evening closes with Brahms' masterpiece, the Symphony No. 2 in D Major. Monday, Feb. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Paul Watkins, guest conductor Elgar Enigma Variations Beethoven Egmont Overture Bartók Divertimento Paul Watkins, conductor and cellist of the renowned Emerson String Quartet, takes the podium for an elegant evening of Elgar, Beethoven and Bartók, the latter of which McDuffie students, faculty, and alumni will have just performed at Carnegie Hall. It's the next best thing to being in New York City! Monday, Mar. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Yaniv Segal, conductor Mercer University Concerto Competition Winner Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade Op. 35 The season concludes with the Mercer University Concerto Competition student winner. Based on the main character in The Arabian Nights, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherezade takes the listener on a fantastic voyage through the Orient.
