ON THE COVER Robert Lee Coleman, who played
with Percy Sledge and made James Brown's "Hot
Pants" hot with his signature lick, still plays weekly
at Back Porch Lounge and goes on tour. He is seated
after a rare solo set lmed on the Grant's Lounge
stage for our new docu-series. Above Coleman is
a mural by John Mollica and Kevin "Scene" Lewis.
Created when Moonhanger Group purchased the
historic venue, the artwork honors the legacy of
founder Edward Grant, Sr. and his family. "Grant's
Lounge belongs to the people," the mural tells us,
echoing the founder's voice. MM shares that vision:
to celebrate the local soul of our people and honor
their authentic stories. Photo by Gunner Robinson.
