What inspires your work? Handing a set
of keys over to a client who has tirelessly
worked for years to qualify to purchase
his first home; holding a client's baby as
she wipes away happy tears, signing on
her new plat of land, breaking the cycle
of generations of poverty in her family;
accompanying a widower on a final
walkthrough as he bittersweetly makes
peace with the past and bravely embraces
the future, or watching as an empty
rectangle in a shopping complex magically
transforms into a colorful, bustling new play
center for children.
What is your advice for women wanting
to start their own business, go back to
work, or start a new career? Find your
inner grit, be fearless, know your value,
and don't look back. There are hundreds
of ways to channel your life experiences,
strengths, and passions into a career that
works for you. Strive for balance and
excellence, not perfection. The metaphor
of the airline safety protocol of putting your
own oxygen mask on first before attempting
to help others sounds counter-intuitive, but
ultimately, it's essential.
