102 maconmagazine.com | April/May 2024 Head to the Heart of Georgia Quilt Show to learn about quilting through workshops and by browsing the gallery. The show is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 5 and 6 at the Methodist Children's Home in Macon. "Quilting taught me to respect my heritage more than ever." HISTORY THAT HOLDS YOU The blanket Helen's grandmother made, the red and black quilt B.J. made to celebrate Ansley's acceptance into UGA, the quilted family tree to honor Wini's heritage, Carolyn's quilts made with her daughter's childhood clothing, and the scores of blankets given to children at The Methodist Home every year are all symbols of how quilts carry our stories throughout the generations. "There are so many ways to quilt," said B.J. "but one thing I love about it is that there is no right or wrong. When you lay it out and see something off, just consider it a happy mistake."
