LEFT Members of the Heart of Georgia Quilt Guild share techniques and creations at a February meeting. QUILTING SHOWS At the Bicentennial Art Show, Wini's works were on full view, from hand-dyed textiles hanging 40 feet long from the atrium's skylight at the Macon Mall, to a large quilt of three-dimensional spirals that graced an entire wall in her upstairs gallery. The Mendes' quilts unfurled from the rafters and adorned columns in the ground floor gallery. The Heart of Georgia Quilt Guild's mission is on full display every two years for a quilt show at the Methodist Home. With 55 members, the guild aims to create, stimulate, and maintain an interest in all matters pertaining to the making, collecting, and preserving of quilts. "The Spring show this April at The Methodist Home is a rare chance for us show off our passion for quilting," said Helen Anderson, Program Director for the Heart of Georgia Quilting Guild. "We also get to show off how versatile our style is. When someone who is unfamiliar with modern quilting wanders in, they are always amazed at what quilts look like today versus what they had in their mind about what quilts were. The show highlights that there is something there for everybody." A walk through the maze of hanging quilts at the Methodist Home attests that this is true. Quilts come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and styles. As with any gallery, viewers go at their own pace, absorbed in the detail and design of various pieces. Each story connects with each person differently, inviting them to appreciate the heritage of the art form. Full display
