Shop til you drop Whether you prefer to shop local, or you're looking for your favorite retail store, Macon has a variety of shopping options. The Shoppes at River Crossing is an outdoor mall filled with specialty retail stores— and it's only 15 minutes from campus. Some of my favorite spots are Barnes & Noble and H&M. The downtown Macon shopping experience is perfect if you're in the market for a one-of-a-kind find. Enjoy local shopping at places such as Wear, Bohemian Den, Fresh Produce Records, Sixth Ave, and more. Explore your new city By DeeDee Cudjoe, '24 Watch a show Catch all the newest movies, with various showtimes throughout the day and the best snacks, too, at Amstar Cinemas on Zebulon Road. If you're looking for something more intimate, the historic Douglass Theatre in downtown Macon hosts film screenings and educational performances throughout the year. For my fellow theatre scene lovers, be sure to check out our community theatre. Macon Little Theatre on Forsyth Road and Theatre Macon in downtown produce musicals and plays for all ages to enjoy. Ready to step out of the audience and into the action? You can audition for a role or volunteer behind the scenes! In addition, if you're interested in nationally touring productions, like Fiddler on the Roof, Legally Blonde – The Musical, or Chicago, head downtown to the Grand Opera House. Get Active Whether you enjoy playing sports or watching a good game, there is a place for you to get involved in the local sports scene. If you're interested in trying one of the fastest-growing sports, visit the pickleball courts at Tattnall Square Park—or try your hand at rock climbing. Located downtown, Macon Rocks features climbing walls for people of all skill levels. Head downtown and check out our local baseball team, Macon Bacon, at Luther Williams Field. The Macon Bacon host weekday and weekend games throughout their summer season—and yes, the mascot is named Kevin Bacon. Macon also has a minor league hockey team, the Macon Mayhem, that plays at the Macon Coliseum. And in addition to the games you can also go ice skating during the Mayhem's season. 29
