What is the mission of your business? The Roberts Academy on Mercer's Macon Campus is a transitional school for children with dyslexia. Our mission is to help build our student's academic skills and restore their love of learning. Our goal is to prepare our students to return to a traditional school environment with the tools and confidence that they need to be successful. How does your business improve lives? The Roberts Academy is designed to transform the lives of its students. Children with dyslexia often struggle emotionally and academically in a traditional setting, and it takes a toll on the child and the entire family. But when we put children with dyslexia in a special learning environment like the Roberts Academy, we can change the trajectory of their future. Share a myth. What is the antidote? The most painful myth is that children who struggle to read are not smart or not trying hard enough or some such nonsense. The children are not the problem; something in their learning environment needs to be fixed. Children with dyslexia are equally capable as their peers, but they learn best with instruction that is individualized, explicit, sequential, and multi-sensory. What are you most excited about right now in our community? The Roberts Academy! We can't wait to open our doors in August 2024.
