DECEMBER 2023/JANUARY 2024 | maconmagazine.com 33 will bring forward … projects to better incorporate neighborhoods with high quality connections, physically and emotionally," said Morrison. Pleasant Hill Pathway stands as a recent example of how these strategies can and will be carried out. This pathway was designed for a dual purpose: to improve safety for bikers and walkers heading toward downtown along Walnut St. and to increase the connectivity between the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail and the Pleasant Hill neighborhood. Cherry Street and 3rd St plazas Another initiative of MAP 3.0 is the design of downtown parks and plazas. Cotton Avenue Plaza, one of the earlier MAP projects, was recently completed, providing an area of rest and beauty. More parks and plazas are to come. Along 3rd St., next to the median, MAP is considering a park space, enclosed by plazas on each end. The park space would include a bike trail buffer, greenery, and areas for family and community activities. Flip to the other side of downtown, on Cherry St. between the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame and the Tubman African American Museum, and MAP may incorporate another plaza. This plaza would preserve parking and allow for a range of activities and spaces, such as outdoor seating, a pop-up roller rink, public performances, a dog run, and a playground. Stay tuned for the complete MAP 3.0, which will be posted on maconbibbuda.com/map soon. © 2023 Cox Communications, Inc. All rights reserved.
