L.J. also works in historic Pleasant Hill as a member of Cure Violence, a violence interrupters organization based on evidence-based national models. Johnson was a definite inspiration for him, through how he created a neighborhood organization and developed a sense of unity. The younger Malone views Johnson as a proactive individual. "To have remnants of his work intact is amazing. Especially when you consider what he done, when he done it. He's not as appreciated as he should be," he expressed. "Mr. Johnson was about unity. That's how he operated and that's how we should be operating. Hopefully we can emulate some of what he done." His daughter reminded that Johnson was also a doting dad that refereed Georgia High School football games for over 30 years and served as president of Southwest High School's Parent Teacher Association during her junior and senior years, never missing a PTA meeting.
